From download to first recall.

1. Install

1. Download Koru — it's free, for macOS 13 or later.
2. Unzip the download and drag Koru to your Applications folder.
3. Launch Koru. It lives in your menu bar, not your dock.

2. Choose your mode

Onboarding shows you Koru working before it asks for anything. Then you pick how much integration you want:

• Full mode enables caret-side recall, selection saving, and typed matching. It uses Accessibility, and Input Monitoring if you turn typed matching on.
• Hotkey-only mode keeps everything behind a global shortcut with no extra permissions. You can upgrade to Full mode anytime in Settings.

Each permission is explained inside the app before macOS shows its prompt, and Koru rechecks the state after you return from System Settings.

3. Save your first item

1. Select any text you'd want again — a reply you're proud of, a command, a prompt.
2. Press the save shortcut. Koru opens a small editor without leaving your app.
3. Add one or more trigger tags of 3–64 characters, then save. The content is the item; there is no title to fill in.

4. Recall it

1. Keep writing in any editable field and type one complete trigger tag. If the assigned tag is dav, da stays quiet and the final v opens Koru.
2. Matching saved text appears beside the caret, even after existing text. Arrow to the one you want.
3. Press Return to insert it exactly where you were typing. Nothing is inserted until you choose.
4. If you do not remember the tag, or typed matching is unavailable in that app, press the global recall hotkey and search by content or tag.

5. Optional: clipboard history

Clipboard history is off by default. Turn it on in Settings, pick a retention window, then type clp anywhere in your writing (or use the Clipboard hotkey) to browse recent copies. Keeping one permanently is an explicit save.

Good to know

• Koru does not intentionally block password fields. Some apps enable macOS Secure Input, which can prevent Koru from seeing or replacing the typed tag.
• Everything is stored locally and encrypted; see the privacy model.
• Where an app limits direct insertion, Koru falls back to the hotkey panel or copy-to-clipboard.
